Roberto Villarreal, MD, MPH

Vice President of Community Initiatives and Translational Research, University Health System

Dr. Villarreal is Vice President of Community Initiatives and Translational Research at University Health System in San Antonio, TX.  He is an adjunct faculty in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.  He is a founder and board member of the South Texas Injury Prevention and Research Center. Dr. Villarreal’s major interest is in the area of Public Health, specifically, in the arena of health promotion and disease prevention related to implementation and evaluation of community intervention programs.  During the past 20 years, Dr. Villarreal has participated in the development of trans-theoretical models that have been applied in cancer prevention, diabetes, and injury prevention and control.  One of his specific interests is the participation of the Hispanic population in the areas of disease prevention and treatment compliance using mass media, behavioral journalism and community outreach approaches.
