Balancing Risk and Benefit: The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force Approach for Developing Clinical Recommendations

The US Preventive Services Task Force makes recommendations for clincal preventive services to improve the health of all Americans, with cancer screening among its most prominent topics.  The Task Force uses a rigorous evidence-based approach to develop its recommendations, with a focus on the net benefit (benefit balanced against harm) of providing a service.  This session will describe how the Task Force does its work, pointing out opportunities for peer and public engagement in the process.
